# Are antimicrobial coatings safe?
## What to know about AMCs
Yes, our antimicrobial coatings are non-toxic, odorless, colorless, and hypoallergenic. They have been registered by the EPA and are safe for use in various environments, including medical facilities and schools. These coatings offer antimicrobial protection without posing any risk to human health.
How are antimicrobial coatings different from other disinfectants?
Traditional disinfectants represent a reactive approach to cleaning—“this surface is contaminated, so we need to clean it.” They last only seconds because a disinfected surface only stays that way until contact with another infectious agent.
They are often incorrectly applied, as well. Sometimes the disinfectant isn’t used for a long enough time to properly disinfect a surface, or the person doing the work may miss part of the area that is supposed to be cleaned.
